Covington - Miss Hortense Rhodes, 68 of Rt 4, Veedersburg died at 8:45 a.m. Friday in Covington Manor Nursing Home. She had been seriously ill the past year. Miss Rhodes retired from Fountain County Soil & Water Conservation Office in 1974. She had been employed 40 years as secretary for W.R. Massey & Son law firm and insurance agency and later in the insurance department at Fountain Trust Co. She moved to Veedersburg in 1973. She was a member of Covington United Methodist Church. She had resided most of her life at Covington and graduated from Covington HS. Born Nov 7, 1907, in Fountain County, she was a daughter of Mock and Fannie Richardson Rhodes. Surviving are four nephews: Murl E. Pearson of Covington; Richard L. Pearson of Vera, Ohio; Donald R. Pearson of Dayton, Ohio and Robert D. Pearson of Rt 4, Veedersburg; a niece, Mrs. Patricia A. Wills of Crawfordsville; an uncle, Floyd W. Richardson of Jamestown and many great nieces and nephews. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home at Covington with Rev. PJ Hamilton officiating. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday    -- jlr
