Rhoads - Margaret Osborn

Mrs. Margaret RHOADS, one of the oldest & most highly respected citizens of this place (Waveland) passed away Monday morning at 11:30 o'clock after a 13 day illness of pneumonia and heart trouble. Margaret Hannah Osborn, dau. of Anderson and ____ Osborn, was b. on a farm near Carpentersville, Indiana Sept 7, 1832 and died at her home in Waveland, Indiana Oct 7, 1807 (sic), age 75 years, 1 month. She received most of her education at the Waveland Academy, graduating from that institution in 1860. After completing her education she taught school near Greencastle and afterward in the Waveland School. June 6, 1861, she was marr. to William F. Rhoads, who preceded her to the great beyond May 17, 1891. Two years ago she met with an accident which resulted in a lameness which never left her and the shock, she then received caused a nervousness which ended only with her life. Early in life she united with the Presbyterian Church and remained a faithful consistent Christian. She was an active worker in every department of the Church, and has been a member of the missionary society ever since its organization. She leaves one brother, John Osborn, and one sister, Mrs. Anna Allison, both of Roachdale, together with a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Thomas G. Pearce at the Presbyt. Church at 11 o'clock this (Wed) morning, after which the body was laid to rest in the Presbyterian Cemetery beside her husband. "She hath done what she could and her works do follow her."

Margaret Hannah Osborn, daughter of Anderson and Mary Maple Osborn, was born September 7, 1832 on a farm a few miles from Carpentersville, Indiana. She received most of her education in the Presbyterian Academy here in the years 1858-59. After completing her education, she taught school near Greencastle and afterward in the school at Waveland in 1878. She was married to William F. Rhoads on June G, 1861. His death occurring on May 17, 1891, left her to mourn his loss until she passed away. Two years ago she met with an accident that resulted in a lameness, which never left her and the shock she then received caused a nervousness, which ended only with her life. Her last illness lasted only thirteen days. Her sufferings were intense and ended in death on Monday, October 7. She made a profession of religion at an early age. She united with the Presbyterian Church here soon after her marriage and has since lived a consistent Christian life. She was faithful in her attendance on all the services of the church, her place in prayer-meeting and church seldom being vacant. She united with the Missionary Society when first organized and has devoted her time and energy to its interests ever since. To the sick and suffering she was always ready to lend a helping hand. " She has done what she could, and her works do follow her. " She leaves one brother and one sister to meet her on the other shore. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday morning at the Presbyterian Church by Dr. Thos. G. Pearce.interment at the Presbyterian Cemetery. Those attending the funeral from a distance were: Mrs. Amos Allison, Mrs. Martha Crosby, Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Hutchings, of Roachdale; Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Shriner, of Lafayette, Prof, and Mrs. J. H. Osborne, Mrs. Lyle Allison, Mrs. Daniel Evans, of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Millie Greenwood, of Attica: Mr. Martin Rhoads, and daughter Helen of Newport; Mrs. Ida M. Rhoads and Mrs. Harry B. Rhoads, Miss Margaret Rhoads of Terre Haute; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Buchanan, of Judson.
