Fred S, Remley, 82 prominent retired farmer and member of a pioneer Montgomery County family died at 9:25 a.m. Friday at Culver Hospial where he had been a patient for the past 7 weeks. Since his retirement from active farm duties in 1944, Mr. Remley had resided with his wife and daughter at their Crawfordsville home, 616 S. Water St. The son of Ambrose and Minerva Shelby Remley, Mr. Remley was born in the Wesley neighorhood on his father's farm Jan 10, 1871. As a yout he attended the Wesley school and Waynetown HS. He also attended Wabash as a member of the class of 1896. Later he became one of the first students in the agriculture department at Purdue. Then over the years, Mr. Remley had made a practice of attending each year the agricultural short course at Purdue. Mr. Remley was married Nov 28, 1894 to Nella A. Brown at her home near Alamo. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary November 1944. Mr. R. held membership in the Wesley methodist Church and he also was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge in Waynetown. He was honored in January 1951, by the lodge when he was presented a 50-year membership pin. Active in Republican politics throughout his life, Mr. Remley served many years as the committeeman in his precinct. He also served as a member of the election board in his precinct elections. During WWI, Mr. Remley was active in the Liberty Loan drives in his township. He had also served two enlistments as a Sgt in the Waynetown Infantry company of the Indiana national guard. Mr. Remley is survived by his wife; one son, Walter B. Remley, member of the C'ville city council; two daughters, Mrs. John D. Schneider of Deerfield, ill and Mrs. Esther Weingartner who has been residing with her parents for a number of years; a sister, Mrs. Sarah Herr of Crawfordsville; a granddaughter, Mrs. Joseph Bowman and three grandsons, David A....; Robert C. Remley (Wabash Collee students) and Larry Weingartner all of Crawfordsville; two nieces and one nephew. A daughter, Frances died in infancy. Mr. Remley was also preceded in death by two brothers, Isaac Francis Remley and Harry C. Remley. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the Bright Funeral Home with Rev. Guy E. Tremaine of Waynetown and Rev. John R. Servies of near Waynetown the officiating ministers. Burial in Wesley Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Fred S. Remley were held Sunday afternoon at the Brigt Funeral Home. Rev. GE Tremaine and Rev. John R. Servies were in charge. Burial was made in the family lot in Wesley Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers and assisting with floral tributes were: Clarence Walters, Albert Swearingen, Verne Remley, Cleve Heath, Jesse P. Graves, Herman Franklin, William A. Freeman and Harry Fruits. Curtis E. Bright played requested selections on the organ at the beginning and close of the service. Fred S. Remley, a retired farmer from the Wesley community died Friday morning at Culver Hospital. Among those from out of the county who were here for the services were Mrs. John D. Schneider of Deerfield, ill, a daughter, Mrs. Charles Gooding and Mrs. William Thompson, both of Shelbyville and James Gaffney and Harold, Groustra, of St. Charles, Il. - these two were shared by szb and typed by her momma, kbz :)
