Source: Crawfordsville Review, Friday, Jan 7, 1916 -- Bettie DEMAREE daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard I. Demaree was born Oct 3, 1891 near Byron and departed this life Dec 30, 1915. She was married to Noble REEVES Oct 15, 1913. To this union was born a son, Thomas Noble, Jr. for which this mother gave her life. Her sufferings were intense but she bore them without a murmur. She leaves besides the husband a father, stepmother, one sister Mrs. Harry Canine, two brothers, John and Sam and a half sister, Dorothy, an aunt, Mrs. Anna Carpenter and a host of relatives and friends. Her mother died when Bettie was only 2. After her mother’s death her aunt, Mrs. Carpenter kept her until she was 5 giving her a mother’s love and care which has never ceased. She was graduated from the common school at Byron in 1906 and from Waveland HS with the class of 1910 at age 18. While at school she was noted for her winning and sympathetic ways. She took interest in all that pertained to the welfare of the school. She was a devout member of the Presbyterian Church. Bettie will be missed with her refined, jovial disposition. She was always ready at all times to meet and greet friends and neighbors with an inspiration for a higher and better life to those with whom she associated. We believed her to be one who cherished no ill will for anyone and a loving remembrance for all whom she chanced to meet. Her open countenance, big heart and sweet smile will be missed not only by her young husband Nobel but all her friends and neighbors -- two friends.
