Sarah Bell Jones - Reed was born near Fincastle, Ind Nov 4, 1861 and passed from this life into immortality Monday morning, Dec 23, 1935 at 6:30 o'clock at the age of 74 years one month 19 days. She was united in marriage to Chalmers B. Reed April 3, 1886. There were born to this union 5 children, Pearl Reed, Ernest Reed, a daughter, Hazel Myers, whop receded her in death on March 2, 1935. An infant son and daughter died at birth. Sarah Reed united with the Presbyterian Church at Parkersburg. She was always interested in the welfare of the church, didn't get to attend the services herself, she was always uring others to go. She had been in failing health the past two years and seriousl ill 3 weeks. All was done that medical knowledge could suggest. In the year 1921, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Pearl Reed, passed away, having two babies, a son, Charles Wesley Reed, and daughter, Margaret Jean, whom she took into her home and tenderly cared for as her own. She was a dear mother to these two children. She was left an orphan at age 8 years and most of her life was spent in the good home of Mr. and Mrs. Thompson Ashby. Her uncomplaining and patient endurance of suffering was sublime. Her response to the needs of others was ever characterized by unselfishness, by a total self forgetfulness. Her thoughtfulness and appreciation made serving her a pleasure. On Sunday afternoon, knowing that the final summons was at hand, she bade all goodbye. Surviving are her husband and two sons, Ernest reed and Pearl Reed, one son-in-law, Lee Myres, of Russellville; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Ernest Reed and Mrs. Pearl Reed of Parkersburg; one brother, John Jones of Roachdale, Ind; two sisters, Mrs. Malindy Kendall of New Maysville, Ind and Mrs. Giles Akers of Hillsdale and two half-sisters, Mrs. Nana Hart of Parkersburg and Mrs. Mollie Fraley of Phoenix, AZ; six grandchildren, Margaret Reed, Charles Reed, Carl Reed, Ellen Marie Reed, Mildred Myres, Alva Myres and Mrs. Alva Myres and a number of nieces and nephews. - kbz
