Lester D. Reed, 64, of 103 Wallace Ave., retired teacher and lifelong resident of Montgomery County, died at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette Friday morning. He had been a patient there for the past nine weeks. Born in Montgomery County Jan 19, 1904, he was the son of Robert O. and Bertha McIntire Reed. He was a 1926 graduate of Wabash College. And on July 3 1926, he married the former Leona S. Summers in Indianapolis. The couple began housekeeping in New Ross, moving to Crawfordsville two years later. Mr. Reed was a schoolteacher for 30 years and was well known for his tutoring activities. For 12 years he was a teller at the First National Bank & Trust Co. For the past four years, he taught school in Tippecanoe County, retiring last August. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Crawfordsville where he was an elder for many years and an active member of the church choir. He was a member and past master of Darlington Masonic Lodge 186. He was a past patron of the Darlington Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 297, and a member of the Crawfordsville OES, Chapter 97. Mr. Reed was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Reed. Survivors include the widow; a son, David R. Reed, a sophomore at Purdue University; a granddaughter, Paula Annette Reed; two sisters, Mrs. Ralph Budd of Rt. 1, Darlington, and Mrs. Hubert Mercer of Lafayette, and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Bright Funeral Home in Crawfordsville. Rev. Howard F. Miller, pastor of the First Christian Church and Rev. Paul E. Million, former pastor of the local church who is now in Lafayette, will officiate. Burial will be in the Crawfordsville Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 11 a.m. Sunday. The Darlington Masonic Lodge will conduct services at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. - jlr
