John E. Ransdell, 76, Crawfordsville’s oldest barber died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday at his home, 602 S. Washington St. He had been afflicted with a heart ailment the past year. Born April 17, 1876, at Thorntown, Mr. Ransdell, who was familiarly known to his friends and associates as “Jack” Ransdell was the son of Thomas and Mary Ransdell. He married Emily Wilson Nov 10, 1898 at Michigan City. Mr. Ransdell who was a lover of sports managed a baseball team in this city for a number of years. Mr. Ransdell had operated barber shops in Crawfordsville and Michigan City. Before his health failed he was associated with the Crawford Barber Shop. Surviving are the widow; a son, Thomas Ransdell, Monroe, Wis; a daughter, Mrs. Leonard Lavin, Champaign, Ill; three granddaughters, Mrs. Atwell Lincoln, Madison, Wis; Mrs. Robert Tracie, Monroe ? Wis; Miss Sally Ransdell, Chicago; three great granddaughters, a great grandson and two sisters, Mrs. NW Dooley, Logansport and Mrs. Jack Clements, Crawfordsville. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Hunt & Son Funeral Home with burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. Rev. John R. Servies will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Wednesday.
