Ramey - Alvin
Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal Thursday, 18 December 1873
One of the best known and most faithful citizens of our town is lost in the person of Alvin Ramey, who died suddenly of lung fever at his residence on West Main Street on Thursday morning, the 11th.
Deceased was about 62 years of age. He had held the office of postmaster at this place for the last five years, during which time he showed himself possessed of the quality so rare in public men of giving complete satisfaction both to the department and to the public. The great improvement in both the management and standing of the post office during the last few years is owing solely to the efforts of Mr. Ramey.
Deceased was a member of Center Presbyterian Church and also of the Order of Odd Fellows, under whose auspices the funeral services were conducted last Saturday afternoon, Rev. John Safford, of Center Church, preaching the funeral sermon. Mr. Ramey was a native of Kentucky, but came to this county as early as 1823 or 1824, and was thus one of the oldest settlers of the county. - thanks to "S"
