Jamestown, June 6 -- Sarah Elizabeth RAINS, 70, resident of this vicinity almost all her life, died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Hazel MILLER, here Saturday morning at 9 o'clock. Death came after an illness of 13 weeks and was due to complication of diseases. The deceased was born in Putnam County on Dec 3, 1860, the daughter of Andrew and Mary GREGORY. She was united in marriage on Feb 18, 1883, to James R. Rains, whose death occurred Sept 1910. Mrs. Rains was a prominent member of the Jamestown Methodist Church. She was the teacher of the Women's Bible class was vice president of the missionary society, treasurer of the Ladies Aid Society and a member of the official board. The survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Mattie Todd of Philo, Illinois; Mrs. Hazel Miller at whose home she died; two sons, Herman Rains of Pittsboro and Matson Rains of Danville, Ill; a sister, Mrs. Ella Proctor, Logansport; a brother, John Gregory, of Tonkawa, Ok and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Jamestown Methodist Church Monday afternoon at 2 in charge of Rev. William Bleam, pastor of the church. Burial at Jamestown IOOF [Independent Order of Odd Fellows] cemetery.
