Abner Jones received a message this morning from Roanoke, VA which told of the death of James Quillen, aged about 73 years, shortly after midnight this morning. Mr. Quillen was a native of this county, having been born about 8 miles northwest of this city and after spending a number of years on a farm came tot his city and engaged in the business of selling feed on Market Street. He became interested in the manufacture of matches and purchased several shares of stock in a company which began operations at Roanoke five or six years ago. He moved to that place and has been a resident of that city. Mr. Quillen was a highly respected citizen and his many friends here and elsewher ein the county will regret to learn of his death. His demise was due to pneumonia and his last illness was of brief duration. A first message received Sunday from his daughter stated that her father was very ill. This was followed by a second message this morning announcing his death. He and his wife were here for a visit about six weeks ago and when one of his rdlatives received an invitation to a family dinner at Jamestown and told Mr. Quillen that he could not attend, James said, "I wish you could go to the dinner, for I feel that this is the last time all of us may ever have to attend a family reunion." He had a premonition that he would never return to Indiana alive, his relative firmly believes. The funeral party will arrive in Waynetown on Tuesday shortly after noon and will be taken to the home of his son, Thomas Quillen, two and a half miles north of there and the funeral will be held probably on Wednesday. The hour has not been fixed. Mr. Quillen was the son of Rev. and Mrs. Thomas Quillen, a well known minister of the Newlight Church, who for a number of years preached at the Mt. Pleasant Church north of this city and in a number of other churches in western Indiana. James Quillen was twice married, the first time to Miss Ellen Jones, daughter of Abner Jones, Sr. who also resided northwest of this city. Mr. Quillen is survived by his widow, two children, one son, Thomas of Waynetown and one daughter, Miss Opal Quillen of Roanoke, VA; and two brothers, George of northwest of town near Round Hill and William O of this city.
