QUIGG, Karl (flu) - Montgomery InGenWeb Project

After an illness of less than two months, Karl Quigg, age 15 years, 3 months and 27 days, a freshman in Darlington HS passed away at his home in the Gravelly Run neighborhood, Thursday morning at 7 o'clock. Karl had just recovered from an attack of influenza but had returned to school and had taken part in the school parade Monday afternoon. Tuesday night he suffered a relapse and grew rapidly worse until the end came yesterday. He was the son of Francis S. and Tacy J. Quigg and was born on the home farm July 18, 1903. The father died when Karl was very young but the mother, five brothers and four sisters survive. The brothers are Claud, Clifford, Halfred, Morris and Curtis. The sisters are Mabel, a teacher in the Darlington school, Mrs. Josie Sorrells and Rena and Bertha at home. The funeral arrangements will not be completed until the arrival of Halfred Quigg from Camp McClelland, Ala. The service which will be held at the Gravelly Run church in charge of Rev. Reagan will probably occur Sunday. Interment at Greenlawn. -- kbz

The funeral of Karl Quigg who died Thursday was held at the Friends Church in Darlington Sunday morning at 11 o'clock and was conducted by Rev. L.M. Reagan of Bridgeport, Ind. The ushers were Prof. Coons and Edwin Miller of the HS and the Freshman class attended in a body. a quartette composed of Dr. Flora, Royal Cox, Mrs. Bert Hiatt and Mrs. Ernest Weesner, accompanied by Miss Edith Paddack sang, Safe in the Arms of Jesus and Face to Face. The flower bearers were Damon Caldwell; Byron Stewart; Oscar Peebles and Loren Binford. The pall bearers were the brothers: Claud, Clifford, Halfred, Morris and Curtis Quigg and brother-in-law, Roy Sorrels. Interment was made in the Greenlawn Cemetery. Those who attended from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Quigg of Elk City, Kansas;Clarence Gerrish of Rockville; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Middleton and son, Orrie of Indianapolis and Daniel Jones of Carmel. Karl Francis Quigg, youngest son and child of Francis S. and Tacy Quigg was born July 18, 1903 on the farm where the family now lives. After an illness of only 28 hours, his spirt took its flight November 14, 1918. When only one month and one day old, he was preceded to the home above by his father and leaves to mourn his loss, his mother, five brothers, four sisters and a great number of relatives and friends. The brothers are Claude, Clifford, Halfred, Morris and Curtis and sisters, Mable, Josie, Rena and Bertha. Karl was graduated from common school last school year and was a member of the present freshman class of Darlington HS. He was not only interested in his studies, but also all schocol activities and read with keen interest discussions on leading current events. He was a birthright member of the Friends CHurch and member of the We Will Class at Gravelly Run. In the work of both the church and Sunday School he was interested. The joy which his presence added to the home at the time of sorrow, which was occassioned by ,,, (sorry, rest is gone). -- kbz
