The funeral services for William Thomas Pyle of Lohman, Montana, were conducted yesterday afternoon at 2:30 at the Methodist Church in Chinook, Montana by Rev. JA Hill, pastor of the Church. A large number of the neighbors and friends of the deceased were in attendance to pay their last tribute of respect. The pastor spoke reassuringly of God's promises to those who believe in Him, and of the believer's hope being realized when they meet again with their loved ones, who have gone before. The choir sang three old favorites: Nearer My God to Thee, Jesus, Savior Pilot Me and My Faith Looks Up to Thee. The funeral procession followed the remains to the railway station whence they were sent last night to his former home at Roachdale, Ind and were accompanied by a son, Smith Pyle, who arrived from that point today, Feb. 7. It seems but yesterday that Mr. Pyle was attending to business matters on our streets and those who knew him could scarcely believe the report of his death when it reached here only a day or two ago. No one knew of his illness, although his family knew he had been failing in health for over a year. He had borne all uncomplainingly until a few days before, when he was taken to the Sacred Heart hospital at Havre, Montana, where he underwent an operation, seeking relief from cancer, but which failed to be successful and the end came Monday, Feb. 4. The news of Mr. Pyle's death will be a severe blow to his two sons, Thomas a Corp in Co. L, 163rd Inf in France and Harlan in service on board US warship Rhode Island. William Thomas Pyle, was b. near Freedom Ind May 2, 1864. When he was about two years of age, his parents moved to Ky near Mt. Hermon where he lived until 1887 when he came to Waveland. He has lived in Montana since 1914. He was married to Carrie J. Hayes of Sulphur Lick, Ky, Dec 19, 1883. To this union were born 8 children: Nova Pyle of Clinton Ind; Smith of Roachdale; Mrs. John Gough of Rockville; Mrs. Dan Rogers of Rockford, Ill; Harlan of the US Warship, Rhode Island, Tom, with the AEF in France, Hayes and John Parker, at home. For 27 years he had been a member of the Christian Church. Mrs. Pyle did not attempt to make the trip back with her husband's body, being physically unable to stand the journey. Mr. Pyle is also survived by an aged father, stepmother, six brothers, one sister and two 1/2 sisters in Indiana. -- typed by kbz
