PERRYSVILLE – Arnold Prather, 70, of Rt. 1, Perrysville, died at 6:20 a.m. today in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Danville, Ill. He had been in ill health for some time. He had been a farmer most of his life and was a former member of the Highland Township Advisory Board. Mr. Prather was also a former assistant superintendent of Vermillion County Highway Department, a former traffic inspector for the Indiana State Highway Department and a member and deacon of Coal Branch Independent Church. He also was a 49-year member of Unity Lodge 344, F & AM, was past master and trustee of the lodge, was member and past patron of Perrysville Chapter 302 Order of Eastern Star, charter member of Perrysville Lions Club, member of Vermillion County Hi-Low Club and was a Democrat precinct committeeman of South Perrysville Precinct. He was born Aug. 10, 1906, near Rileysburg, Ill., a son of Frederick and Nellie Bennett Prather. He was graduated from Perrysville High School in 1925. He was married to Mary Clawson on Dec. 31, 1927. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Harry (Beverly) Friedlund Jr. of DeKalb, Ill.; a son, Lawrence “Rodney” of Rt. 2, Covington; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home at Covington with the Rev. Grover Williams officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Tuesday. Masonic memorial services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday. – jlr
