Melvina Icelone POWELL, former resident of this city, died at 5:15 o'clock Sunday morning at Culver Hospital as the result of complications which developed from a mastoid trouble. She was taken to the hospital Saturday. Deceased was born Nov 21, 1886, near Advance, the daughter of Newton and Amelia Powell. She began working in the law office of Robert W. Caldwell here in 1907, being employed there 9 years. During 20 years of employment she was connected with only three firms. After working in the local law office she was employed by Fred Obenchain, representing the Spotted Poland China Association and for Milton Murphy of All-Rite Company at Rushville, where she was employed at the time of her death. She was a member of the Christian Church at Rushville and Royal Neighbors. Her father, Newton Powell died on January 6, 1905 (1925?). She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Amelia Powell of Rushville; a sister, Mrs. Wilb ur Hesser of Indianapolis, a borhter, Thomas C. Powell of this city and 9 nephews and one niece. The body was taken tot he home of her brother, Thomas Powell on Scott Street. Funeral services will be held from Christian Church Wed afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be made at Pisgah Cemetery 9 miles east of Crawfordsville. -- kbz
