Mrs. Josephine Powell, 86 of Glendale, Calif, died Wednesday night at the Glendale Adventist Hospital where she had been a patient for a week with a broken hip. She was the sister of Omer Whitlock of Crawfordsville. Born in Maywood, Ind June 14, 1880, she was the daughter of Joseph and Naomi Whitlock. She married John L. Powell in Yountsville. The couple spent most of their married life in Indianapolis. A few years after her husband died, Mrs. Powell moved to Glendale to care for her sister, who died 3 years ago. Mrs. Powell had been living in Glendale for 10 years. While in Indiana, Mrs. Powell was a member of the Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Retired Railroadmen's Widows. Survivors include her brother, Omer Whitlock; two nephews, Wayne Whitlock of Longmont, Colo; and Harold Whitlock of Marietta, Ohio; and a foster daughter, Mrs. Glendora Bell of Corpus Christi, Tex. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, three brothers and one sister. The body is being returned to the Shirley Funeral Home in Indianapolis where arrangements will be made. -- kbz
