Walter O. Pittenger, 74, a native of Montgomery County and a farmer in the Liberty neighborhood many years, died Monday in the Veterans Administration Hospital at Long Beach, Calif., it has been learned here by relatives. Mr. Pittenger had been in failing health two years and seriously ill four weeks. He had been hospitalized one week. A resident of Desert Hot Springs, Calif., since leaving here, Mr. Pittenger was the son of Frank and Lizzie Pittenger. He was married to Jessie Smith of Rockville, who survives. Mr, Pittenger was a veteran of World War I and a member of the New Richmond Masonic Lodge. Surviving, in addition to the widow, are a niece, living in Falls Church, Va., and several cousins in Montgomery County. He was preceded in death by a brother, William A. Pittenger, Wabash College graduate and Republican congressman from Minnesota seven terms. Funeral services and burial will be at Glenview, Calif.
