James B. Pierce was born in northern Pennsylvania, July 22, 1826, moved over the line into New York in early life, then to Ohio where he grew to manhood.
He came to the Round Hill neighborhood when a young man, where he resided until his death, which occurred Monday, June 15, at 8:30 p.m. Thus ended a long and useful life, he having lived almost 70 years.
He was married to Sarah A. Wilson Oct. 13, 1853. There were born to them eight children, four of whom are still living to mourn the loss of a loving father. The wife of his youth and mother of his children, died April 24, 1871. on Jan. 25, 1877, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Rhoda A. Larsh. For over eighteen years they have traveled life’s road together and now she is left alone.
Brother Pierce’s last affliction was of eight weeks’ duration and very severe, but he endured it all by the help of Christ and is now at rest in heaven. He has been an earnest Christian and faithful member of the M. E. Church since his young manhood days. He said death had no sting and that he was anxious to get home. He was unconscious to the last and died in the triumph of a living faith.
The funeral services were conducted at the Asbury Church of which he was a member, by Rev. J. P. Shagly, the pastor, on Wednesday, June 17, at 2 p.m.
