The Attica Ledger announces the death of Stephen Philpott, of Jackson township, Fountain county. He was 77 years old. Thirty-one years ago I went to school with him. At that time for many years previously, and subsequently he was Justice of the Peace and general man of business of that township. He was a talented, well educated and remarkable man of his day. Thirty-five years ago he was the only man west of Jacksonville who took a newspaper, and his was the only house in that section in which you could find a library of miscellaneous books. Six years ago, he had an altercation with one McKinsey, in which the latter was killed.- kim h
