Sister Flora Jonah Philpott, nee Willis, was born at Alamo, Ind. Dec, 14, 1856, departed this life Nov. 4, 1902 of tuberculosis, aged 45 years, 10 months and 20 days. She was the third and oldest daughter of the late Dr. S. Willis. Five brothers out of 7 and one sister, out of 3, survive, Only two, Ora and Ella are present, her parents being dead. At the age of 18 she was married to Bro. James Philpott April 13, 1875, by Squire Morfitt. with whom she lived a happy and contented life, till her dessolution. To this union was born three children, one son and two daughters. One daughter, Daisy Myrtle, died when 11 months old, Dora, the son, and Loue Furr, are spared to comfort the father. She also leaves one grandson.  Hers was a model religious life. She confessed her Savior in the year 1887 at Freedom school house church under the labors of Elder Elijah D. Simmons, where she served her Lord and Master, when about ten years ago she gave her membership and influence to the Yeddo Christian church until the Lord called her home. Sister Philpott was a devoted, careful and a prayerful christian wife and mother, her example was all but perfect. As a wife, neighbor and believer in Jesus Christ she made but few mistakes. She was prompt, even when sick, to church and Sabbath school, teaching the young men’s class till her health failed her. She was a prominent member of the choir and her delight was in song, and her anxiety, the prosperity of the church. Sister Philpott’s suffering was constant and severe, and borne with christian resignation. Like the rest of us, she loved her home, husband children, church and life. She felt that she was young to die, but if it was the Lord’s will, she was ready and willing to go. She said to her husband “I'm going, raise me up,” and her spirit took its flight. Services to a large gathering at her residence Nov. 6 by Elder J. T. Phillips. – jlr
