Mrs. MARY QUICK PHILLIPS, 86 years of age, died at 10:55 o'clock Friday morning at the home of a son, Melvin PHILLIPS, three quarters of a mile north of Michigantown. She had been confined to her bed since August 27, 1944. Mrs. Phillips, who had been a subscriber of the Frankfort Morning Times since its first publication more than a half a century ago, left her own obituary, having prepared it some years ago with a request that it be published. Mary Quick Phillips was born near Crawfordsville, January 1, 1859, the daughter of Lyman and Sarah (WOODS) QUICK. She grew to womanhood there then moved with her parents to the farm, three fourths of a mile north of Michigantown to the place which is now known as the Harrison Quick farm. Here, on September 3, 1876, she was married to James W. PHILLIPS, of Rossville. After a resident of two years in Montgomery County, the young couple returned to Clinton county to help her mother on the farm as her father had passed away a short time after her marriage on the same farm and in the same house where she went to meet her Savior. To her were born five fine sons, two passing on in childhood, William better known as Bill Phillips passed away three years ago, Melvin and Philip reside near Michigantown. Her husband departed this life, June 3, 1928. In 1930 she broke up housekeeping and had since made her home with her children. She was a charter member of Friendship Christian church, better known as the old Gooseberry church. When it was disbanded she and her husband put their membership in the Hopewell Methodist church. After living with her sons, who belong to the Michigantown Methodist Church, she moved her membership there. She was a devoted mother and her life was given to others. No task was too hard, no sacrifice too great for her love. She took a brother and his baby daughter into her home and has been a mother to this daughter. Two sons came home orphaned children and she helped rear them until new She leaves one brother, Burr QUICK, near Michigantown and seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. Several preceded her in death. Friends may call at the home of son, Melvin PHILLIPS, one half mile north of Michigantown after 2 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Hopewell Rev. Warriner will officiate. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery. - thanks so much to Mary K - she's GRRRRReat sending me goodies :)
