George Elmer Potts, 86, of Rt. 2, Crawfordsville, died at 6:35 a.m. Wednesday in the Veterans Hospital at Indianapolis after a lengthy illness. Mr. Potts was a Spanish-American War veteran, having served in the Philippines with Co. L of the 40th Regiment Infantry, U.S. Volunteers. He was born June 27, 1882, in Daviess County. On Dec. 25, 1904, in Washington, Ind., he was married to Lulu M. Carnahan, who survives. They moved to Indianapolis in 1931, where they lived until coming to live with their daughter in Montgomery County in 1962. Surviving besides the widow are three children: George E. Potts Jr. of Chicago; H. Robert Potts of Indianapolis and Mrs. Ruth Himes of Crawfordsville; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Ira Lee of Indianapolis. A son. Edward, and a granddaughter preceded him in death. Mr. Potts was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church of Indianapolis and a member of the Megrew Camp of the Spanish War Veterans. Funeral services will be conducted at the Abdon and O’Riley Funeral Home in Indianapolis Friday at 10:30 a.m. – jlr
