Lawrence J. Pierce, 85, Wesley Manor, Frankfort, died in Home Hospital at Lafayette Saturday afternoon. Mr. Pierce was a graduate of Crawfordsville High School and attended Indiana State University. He taught school in Montgomery County, Lebanon and Lafayette. Upon returning from World War I in 1920, Mr. Pierce went into the insurance business with Lafayette National Park Bank Insurance Department. He then became the state agent for Wolverine Insurance Co. and retired in Muncie. He held the oldest membership card of Lions Club International, and was a member of St. Mathews United Methodist Church of Frankfort, American Legion, VFW, Volunteers of World War I of USA and Yoke Fellow. Born in Montgomery County on June 17, 1891, he was a son of William and Arminta McClamroch Pierce. He was married to Edith Johnson on Sept. 1, 1914. She died on Dec. 24, 1975. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John (Ann) Fouts of East Lansing, Mich.; a grandson, John Lawrence Fouts of Lafayette; and two great-grandchildren. Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Wesley Manor Chapel with Dr. Walton Cole and the Rev. Ray Brown officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mathews United Methodist Church of Wesley Manor. – jlr
