John E. Petticurd son of John and Lydia Jones Petticurd was born near New Ross, Ind Aug 24, 1879 and died at the home of his parents in Indianapolis of exhaustion caused from a several attack of pneumoia Sept 15, 1905 aged 26 years 22 days. His was an illness of 116 days and during all this time his true character stood forth as a shining light. He bore his suffering with marked fortitutde and was alway skind and thoughtful of his parents, nurse and friends. He was recognized as an honest, industrious conscientious boy. For more than six years he was a trusted employee of the Phillips Show Company which was touring the state playing "Uncle Tom's Cabin." When he was taken ill he acted in the capacity of advance agent and was held in the highest esteem by the company. While not a church member he believed in God and immortality. He had his bible on his bed and read as much as he was able and had his parents read it to him. He was often heard to say these words, "Praise the Lord." He leaves behind to mourn his untimely death a father, mother, three brothers, Walter, Chester, LaRose and two sisters, Pearl and Bessie an aged grandfather, John Jones to whom he was very devoted and in whose honor he was named and hosts of friends. In fact if he had an enemy no one knew it. His remains were brought from the capital city on Saturday to the home of his aunt, Mrs. Will Walls near New Ross who lives on the same farm on which he was born. On Sunday afternoon the beautiful white casket covered with fresh bloom in which he lay was taken to the Christian Church in New Ross where the funeral occurred. The body was then laid to rest in the new Odd Fellows cemetery of that place. O, we are so lonely since that fatal day, an angel came down and born Johnny away. Let us pause for a moment and think of his pain and then rest assured that our loss is his gain. Let us emulate his example and for that world prepare where there'll be no more sorrow for Johnny is there. MSE Card of Thanks - We desire through the medium of this paper to extend our most heartfelt thanks to the good people of New Ross and vicinity for the sympathy and kiness shown us in the sad hours of the death of our beloved son. Especially do we wish to take this opportunity of thanking Dr. Etter who came so far through our boy's long illness and who so patiently thoughtfully and kindly exercised his skill, which was complimented by the best specialists of the city to heal him. Such kindness will be reward by Him who doeth all things well. Mr. and Mrs. John Petticurd and family
