Peterson - Isaac

Source: Crawfordsville Weekly, November 7, 1902

Isaac Peterson was born in Butler county, Ohio, January 22, 1836, and moved to Montgomery county, Ind., when he was about three years old. He united with the Presbyterian church when he was twenty-one years old and made it his church home from more than forty-five years. He frequently made the remark that he never regretted the step he had taken in uniting with the church and his faithful attendance at all church services, his interest in seeing his own family all unite with the church of his choice and his keen interest in the spiritual work of the church, all attest the fact that his was a heart of worship. For many years he was a chorister in the church and Sabbath school and aided materially in the church worship in this way. His diffidence always deterred him from taking an active part in public services other than the music, but his sincerity and love for the Master's work were never questioned. The real beauty of his life was known and appreciated in his own family. He was married March 12, 1859 and is survived by his wife and all his sons and daughters. It was a home of perfect peace and love. Nothing more need be said of him as a husband, father and friend than what is known to all. He was a faithful husband, a loving father and a constant friend. In his home the loss is felt the more keenly because of his death was so sudden and unexpected. He died Oct. 28, 1902 in his 67th year. He was one of the pioneers of this community whose influence has been for good. The sturdy oaks of the forest and the pioneers who cleared the forests and helped to give us our civil and religious institutions are fast going. Mr. Peterson was but one of these men who died his duty and accomplished his work and has entered into his reward. The funeral was held from the Union church Thursday, Oct 30, conducted by Rev. W.M. Elliott. - thanks to Kim H
