Harry Hains Peterson, prominent farmer and stock raiser, who resided for many years in the Potato Creek neighborhood, northwest of Darlington, died at Culver hospital Monday morning, where he became a patient Saturday. Mr. Peterson had been in declining health with a heart ailment for the past few years. He was 64 years of age. Mr. Peterson was born March 19, 1887, north of Darlington in Sugar Creek township, the son of Charles P. Peterson and Mary Hains Peterson. He was the oldest of five children born to his parents. The family was a pioneer family in Sugar Creek township. Mr. Peterson. attended Wabash college with the class of 1910 and was a member of the Wabash chapter of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Following his retirement from active farm duties, Mr. Peterson had resided in Smartsburg. Mr. Peterson was a member of the Smartsburg Christian church. Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Maude Peterson; two daughters, Charlotte Wheeler, of Moline, Ill., and Mrs. Marilee Clodfelter, of Greencastle; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Peterson, and a granddaughter, Barta Lee Peterson both of Chicago. Two sons preceded him in death. Barton Peterson who died in 1940 and Hains Peterson who died in 1950. Two sisters and two brothers also survive — Mrs. Geneva Teale, of Darlington; Mrs. Marie Thompson, who is with her husband at an army camp in Georgia; Max Peterson, of Evansville, and Byron Peterson of Kokomo. Funeral services will be conducted at the Hunt and Son Funeral home Thursday at 2 p. m., with burial in the family lot in the cemetery just west of Darlington. Friends may call at the funeral home after Tuesday noon.
