Labette county lost another pioneer citizen in the death of George M. Pefley, 88, who died yesterday afternoon at his home, 3212 Main. Mr. Pefley had been in feeble health for some time. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Rose McElwain of McCune, Mrs. James Cook of Altamont, Mrs. A. E. Brane of Galena and Mrs. Hattie Radabaugh of the home address; one son, Dan Pefley, route 2, Parsons and several grandchildren including Arthur Pefley, 208 N. 28th. Mrs. Pefley died Sept. 18, 1925 The funeral will be held at the Church of the Brethren at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. John S. Clark and assisted by he pastor of the church, the Rev. C. Ernest Davis and interment in Elston Cemetery. Mr. Pefley was born Dec. 9, 1846, on a farm near Ladoga, Ind., where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Mary Bosseck, June 2, 1870, and a few months thereafter emigrated in a covered wagon to Kansas settling near Fredonia where they purchased wild prairie land and built a home. In 1880 they moved to Labette county, locating in the Stover neighborhood near Altamont and resided there for 21 years. They later located on farms in the vicinity of Parsons and moved to Parsons in 1911 and have resided at the home Mr. Pefley built at 3212 Main since that time. Mr. Pefley had been a consistent member of the Church of the Brethren since early manhood and by his upright life and character made scores of friends wherever he lived. He was a splendid citizen and will be greatly missed by his church and the community. Arrangements are in charge of the Martin funeral home.
