Pefley - Leighton Lyle

The body of Leighton Lyle Pefley, 15 years old, was found Tuesday morning by his mother, Mrs. Elmer Pefley, lying in the yard of their home at Coloma, four miles northwest of Rockville. Death was due to self-inflicted gunshot wounds, according to Parke County Coroner B. M. Merrell. Sheriff Charles Cooper and Deputy Max Webb conducted an investigation but have given no verdict as whether of not the boy shot himself accidentally with a.22-caliber rifle. According to Mrs. Pefley, the youth, a Montezuma high school freshman, left home Monday night and failed to return. Survivors include the parents; four brothers, Lance, Philip, Gregory and Noel, all at home, and the grandparents, Mrs. Gladys Pefley of Rockville, Austin Phillips of Judson and Mrs. Bessie Phillips of Terre Haute. The body was taken tot he Barnes Mortuary where last rites will be held at 10:30 o'clock this (Thursday) morning. The Rev. B. F. Nickless will officiate and burial will be in Memory Garden Cemetery.
