Pefley - Gertrude

Gertrude “Shorty” Pefley, 75, of 2500 Rockport Rd., died Monday at Bloomington Hospital. Born Jan. 27, 1905 in Mellott, she was the daughter of Ira S. and Grace (Caldwell) Waggoner. She was a member of the Pentecostal faith. She was employed as a beautician for 29 years, retired from Sarkes Tarzian, and was matron at Monroe County Court house. She was a talented musician and active in playing at several churches and on church radio programs. She was also involved with Monroe County Hymn Sing. Survivors include one daughter, Betty J. Pefley of Bloomington and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister Mrs. Ray “Adah” Doty; and three brothers, Russell B., Paul R., and James M. Waggoner. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Allen Funeral home with the Revs. Grace Hillenburg, Kiah E. Rayl, and Arthur Miller officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. today and 2-9 p.m. Wednesday. --
