Peffley - Mary Curry

Mary Gephart Peffley, 54, of Bloomington, died Wednesday at her residence following a long illness.
Born Dec. 8, 1930, in Youngstown, Ohio, she was the daughter of John H. and Marjorie (Boulware) Curry. She graduated from Hubbard High School in Hubbard, Ohio, and earned a bachelor's degree from Adrian College in Adrian, Mich. She taught nursery school and elementary school music in suburban Detroit, Mich., and Columbus, Ohio. After receiving at Indiana University in 1980, she worked as a medical social worker at Bloomington Hospital for more than four year. While there, she also volunteered in the cardiac rehabilitation department.
She was a member of the Monroe County Association of Social Workers, Phi Delta Kappa and the Unitarian Universalist Church. She was a volunteer and teacher for the Community Action Program and head Start, a founding member of Sweet Adelines and the Hoagy Carmichael Jazz Society and a co-founder of the Encore program for mastectomy patients.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. George Peffley, DDS; two sons, Jeffrey Gephart of Rochester, Vt., and Brian Gephart of Chicago, Ill.; her mother and stepfather, Marjorie and Robert Davis of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one brother, John R. Curry of Charlotte, N.C.; and two grandchildren, Graham Maxim and Hannah Mary Gephart, both of Rochester, Vt.
She was preceded in death by her father, John H. Curry.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. No visitation is scheduled. Day Mortuary in Bloomington is in charge of arrangements.
Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Bloomington Hospital Medical Social Services Discretionary Fund or the American Cancer Society.
