George G. Peffley, 81, Route 1, Van Buren, died Wednesday at his home of incineration after his auto stuck on his garage foundation with its wheels spinning and then caught fire. Hancock county Coroner Dr. Byron F. Voorhees explained Mr. Peffley suffered a cerebral vascular incident, which initiated the auto accident, and his subsequent death was by incineration. He had suffered a similar incident Tuesday evening in Oakland County, Mich., and relatives had driven him home. The Hancock County Sheriff's Department reported Mr. Peffley had entered his auto and started to back out of the garage when he put his car in drive and crashed through the north end of the building. The auto caught on the building foundation, and the tires continued to spin, then caught fire, which ignited the auto and the garage, Mike Poole, Van Buren fire chief reported. Mr. Peffley remained inside the auto. The sheriff's department is investigating. Mr. Peffley was born Feb. 12, 1893, in Cass Township, to George N. and Evelyn (Franks) Peffley. He never married. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Walter (Gayle) Bowman, Rocky River; Mrs. Samuel R. (Mabel) Huntington, Route 7, Findlay; Mrs. John F. (Frances) MacMurray Sr., Route 1, Van Buren. Mr. Peffley, a retired farmer, was a member of the Van Buren United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Kirkpatrick-Hawkins Funeral Home, the Rev. Earl McCall officiating. Burial will be in Van Buren Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today. --Republican Courier (OH), Thursday, 14 November 1974, pg. 6
