Mrs. Walter Peebles died at her home in the Gravelley Run neighborhood Friday night at 10 o'clock following a weeks' illness with pneumonia. For several years she had been an invalid but was always cheerful and tried to meet her afflictions bravely and without complaining. Mrs. Peebles who was, Rebecca Stephenson was born in Tippecanoe ounty, June 5, 1851 and at her death was 66Y 6M 30D. Her parents were Archibald and Indiana Stephenson and she was the youngest daughter in a family of 7 children. Early in life she was left an orphan and made her home with relatives until her marriage to Walter D. Peebles Oct 1, 1872. Four sons were the fruit of the union, Clifford A; Orville M; Archibald and Leroy all of whom survive their mother except Clifford who died in infancy. The other 3 were present when she breathed her last. Soon after her marriage she united with the Friends Church at Gravelly Run and was always a consistent member striving to do right and bringing up her children in the fear of the Lord. She was a faithful wife, a devoted mother, a loving sister and a kind neighbor. Besides her husband and sons she leaves one sister, Josephine, who made her home with the Peebles family. The funeral was held at Darlington Friends Church Sunday morning at 10 and was in charge of Rev. Lindley Reagan of Bridgeport, a former pastor here. Miss Letha Mote, Miss Lola Binford, Walter Stewart and Caspar Pritchard sang. The pall bearers were Atwell, Herbert and Merritt Peebles, Carl Needham, Walter Martin and Claude Quigg. Interment in Greenlawn Cemetery. -- kbz
