Peebles - Lou LaFollette

DARLINGTON – Mrs. Lou S. Peebles, Montgomery County native, died Thursday morning at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. Mrs. Peebles, 74, had been admitted to the hospital three and a half weeks ago. The deceased was the wife of Merritt Peebles, retired Darlington area farmer, who survives. The couple moved into the town proper 11 years ago upon their retirement. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Gravelly Run Ladies Aid Society. A daughter of Joseph W. and Alice Buchanan LaFollette, she was born Dec. 22, 1892, south of Darlington. The family moved into town when she was 1½ years old. She was reared there and was graduated from Darlington High School. She married Mr. Peebles on Dec. 31, 1914, in the family home at Darlington. Shortly afterward, they moved to the farm. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Bernard Hole of near Darlington; three grandsons, Gerald Hole of Jamestown and Robert and Garry Hole of near Darlington; a sister, Mrs. Bess Holloway of Crawfordsville, and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Bright Funeral Home at Darlington with Revs. Robert Hansen and A. L. Vermillion officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Saturday. – jlr
