The news travelled swiftly Monday morning that "Bill" Peck had died. It was such a shock that folks could scarcely believe it. He had been ailing a day or two of what was supposed to be a slight case of influenza which caused little concern until Monday when he took a change for the worse and expired suddenly of Polio Encephalitis. At first it was thought that Mr. Peck succombed to a heert attack but his attending physician was not satisfied and accordingly made laboratory tests and discovered the deadly germ of polio encephalitis, which is similar to infantile parlysis but not so common and much more dangerous and quick in its development. It was thought necessary to hold a private funeral Wednesday afternoon because of the danger that health authorities feared might come from a public funeral. Mr. Peck had made his home throughout the 36 years of his life in the house in which he was born, Oct 15, 1908. He was the son of William E. and Lura Peck. He was married November 30, 1935 to Elizabeth Lydick, then residing at Wolcott, Indiana; to which two daughters were born, Lura Ellen and Sarah Louise. Bill Peck was one of our finest young men, graduated from our high school and afterwards took a business course and then took up farming as an occupation. He held the respect of all who knew him. He was an official member of the Presbyterian Church and of the recently organized Waveland Lions Club. There survive his going his wife and daughters, his mother and two sisters Mrs. Margaret McWilliams and Miss Gertrude Peck of Indianapolis. The Rev. HD Trickey preached the funeral Wednesday at 2:00 at the home. Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery at Greencastle. - kbz
