Ervin Hershel Payne, 72, of 1007 W. Main St., died Friday night at his home after an illness of six years. Mr. Payne was a farmer most of his life. He recently had been employed by Fishero Construction and McDaniel Freight Lines. He was a member of Waveland Covenant Church. A native of Salem, Inf., he was born Jan. 24, 1898, a son of Andrew B. and Deborah E. Farabee Payne. He was married June 7, 1924, to Daisy R. Hunsicker. Surviving are the widow; four daughters, Mrs. Robert (Imogene) Sandusky of Ladoga, Mrs. Bill (Irene) Lidester of New Richmond, Mrs. Leonard (Marjorie) Tavern of Jeffersonville and Mrs. Dwane (Janet) Clements of Crawfordsville; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Johnson and Mrs. Nora Quillin, both of Crawfordsville; 11 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister. Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Hunt & Son Funeral Home. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Sunday.
