Patton- Burdette (Dr)

Some time ago Mrs. Julia Fletcher, of New Market, married a Dr. Patton, of Terre Haute, and soon ascertained that he was not the man she wanted. She sued for divorce with good cause and Patton set up the ridiculous defense that she had tried to poison him. The court, of course, found for the lady and she was given a divorce. Patton died the other day and the Terre Haute, Tribune speaking of his case says:
“The funeral of Dr. Burdette E. Patton was held this afternoon from the First United Brethren Church. The death of the physician recalls a sensational case in which he charged his wife with attempting to poison him and about a year ago, while he was very ill he called in the authorities to make a statement and in it he charged his wife with administering poison to him. He maintained to the last that this was the cause of his illness. The attending physician pronounced the cause of death as stomach trouble and enlargement of the heart.”
