Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Review 13 July 1878 p 5
Mrs. Nancy Patton, widow of John Patton of the vicinity of New Richmond met with a very strange death last Thursday afternoon. She was saddling a horse when the animal got its foot over the bridle rein and fell, knocking Mrs. Patton down and instantly breaking her neck. The funeral took place on the following afternoon. It was only on the preceding Sabbath that the funeral sermon on the death of her husband who died last spring was preached.
