ATTICA — Robert Leland Parnell Jr., 32, Rt. 1, Hillsboro, was fatally injured in a traffic crash 2 1/2 miles south of here on U.S. 41 at 12:25 a.m. Saturday. He was dead on arrival at the Community Hospital in Williamsport. Death was due to a skull fracture. Parnell, riding alone, was returning to his home near Hillsboro at the time of the accident. It was believed he had attended the Wabash Valley preliminary tournament at Attica Friday night. Officers who investigated said Parnell started to pass another car driven by Glenn S. Jones, 50, Rt. 3, Veedersburg. He apparently failed to turn out far enough and nicked the left rear of the Jones car. The Parnell car veered off the road on the left side, hitting a tree. The Jones car was not seriously damaged. He was driving a 1957 Ford while Parnell was driving a 1955 Ford. State Trooper Don Woods and Attica police department investigated the accident. Parnell was born Oct. 12, 1925, at Newtown, the son of Leland and Lucille Robbins Parnell. He was never married. He had lived in the Hillsboro community most of his life and was graduated from Hillsboro High School. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge at Hillsboro, the Hillsboro Boosters Club and the Eagles Lodge at Crawfordsville. Parnell had been employed by the Attica Ready Mix Concrete Co. and was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. The survivors include the parents; and a sister, Mrs. Cyril McMahon of Crawfordsville. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Crumley Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Burial will be in the Newtown Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home. --typed by Walt W
