Mrs. Eliza Spruhan Painter, 80, sister of the late John Spruhan, suffered fatal injuries when struck by a car at Washington Street and Wabash Avenue crossing in Crawfordsville on Tuesday evening. She died in Culver Hospital. Mrs. Painter often visited here and had many friends. She was probably the first woman of the county to be admitted to the bar. She practiced in Chicago where she married Thomas Painter, now dead. She was an aunt of Mrs. Madge Goodwin and Mrs. Noe Moore. She was a member of the Women's Relief Corps, and established the custom of flying the flag at the courthouse at half mass on the death of any soldier.
