Monticello - Mrs. Ruth Owens of Minneapolis, Minn., sister of Mrs. Irving Ripley, of Monticello, died Thursday after a long illness. Mrs. Ripley has been in Minneapolis for several weeks to care for her sister. Brief services will be held today in Minneapolis. The body will be taken to Darwin-Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown, Ind., where services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday. -- Thanks Ginny A for sending this our way :)

WAYNETOWN - Mrs. Ruth Cowan Owen, 69, Montgomery County native who was reared in Waynetown, died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday in Minneapolis, Minn., where she had made her home since 1945. Born Aug. 13, 1896, south of New Richmond, she was the daughter of William E. and Ida E. Sanders Cowan. She graduated from Waynetown High School in 1915 and obtained her degree in education from Indiana University. Mrs. Owen had been ill for the past two years and seriously ill 10 months prior to her death. She died at Abbott Hospital in Minneapolis. On July 20, 1920, she had married Arnett H. Owen in her parents' home in Waynetown. He preceded his wife in death on Oct. 2, 1954. Mrs. Owen had taught school in Waynetown and Huntington. Before moving to Minneapolis, she had lived in Denver, Colo., and Indianapolis. Survivors include a son, Richard Owens of Minneapolis; two sisters, Mrs. Nina Ripley, of Monticello and Mrs. Mary Dazey of Waynetown; two brothers, Lawrence Cowan of Indianapolis and Maurice Cowan of Columbus, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown. Burial will be in Waynetown Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Minneapolis.
