OWENS, Hattie

Source: Crawfordsville Weekly Journal, February 11, 1888

Hattie Owens, a creole girl, 18 years of age, died on February 8, at the residence of George Robinson on Liberty street.  She was a cripple from childhood, being injured by a fall which caused a running sore on her right leg.  Last winter she started school and some of the rough boys in a game pushed her and she fell; this opened the sore again and for the past 6 months of torture death relieved her.  She was the protege of Mrs. John M. Coulter who was attentive to her in her last illness.  Being a very handsome girl and good withal.  she was a favorite among her white neighbors, who gave her every attention possible in her affliction.   --– thanks muches to Kim H
