Elmer T. Oswalt, Sr., 71, died unexpectedly at 7:10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, in his home in Romney.He was born near Attica, Oct. 8, 1914. He had lived in the Romney area 38 years. He resided in the Lafayette area for several years before moving to Romney. He was married Nov. 3, 1934, in Attica, to Marjorie Chapman, who survives.He was foreman of the Co-Rec Gym at Purdue University for 17 years, retiring in 1977.He formerly was employed at Brown Rubber Co.Surviving, besides his wife, are four sons, Elmer T. "Ted" Jr., James W. and Ronald H. Oswalt, all of Lafayette, and Thomas E. Oswalt, West Point; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (sandy) Carrico, Clarks Hill and Loretta Oswalt, at home; two brothers, Peter Oswalt, Lafayette, and Ward Oswalt, Romney; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be held in the Hippensteel Funeral Home Chapel today (Friday) at 2:30 p.m. with the Stephen P. King officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Romney. Those so desiring may contribute in memoriam to Wabash Center for Exceptional Children.
