Samuel G. OSBORN, son of Jesse and Nancy Osborn, was born in Orange County, North Carolina April 1, 1826; departed this life, March 7, 1912. Aged 85 years, 11 months and 6 days. When 3 years old his parents moved to Parke County, Indiana, locating on Rushcreek, near Sylvania, and here he received his education in the schools nearby. It was several years later when he moved to Fountain County. In his youth he joined the United Brethren church and lived faithful to its teaching. When the call for volunteers came in '61, he offered his services, was rejected twice on account of poor health, but was accepted in '63 and served his country faithfull and well. He was a member of Erwin Post G.A.R. at Tangier, Ind., and was a faithful attendant at all meetings as long as his health would permit. He was four times married, to Nancy Hicks, Elizabeth Keller, Margaret Hicks and Cornelia Lewis Dorton. During his last illness of 10 weeks, although not suffering much pain, he welcomed the end and was ready to go. And fearlessly and with perfect trust in Him, who said, "Because I live, ye shall live also," he answered the final summons. He leaves to mourn his departure an aged wife and 4 children Adaline, Cassie, George and John; also several grandchildren and one brother, John of Bloomingdale, Ind. Three children by former wives and 2 by the surviving partner have preceeded him to the other worlds. He has gone to join them. Funeral services were conducted from the Bethel church at 11 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 1912, Rev. Jackson Marshall officiating. Interment in the cemetery nearby. - kz
