Donald L. "Chummy" Orr, 40, printer and former outstanding athlete here, died at 11:35 a.m. in Home Hospital at Lafayette shortly after being taken there. He had been stricken while at work at the Lafayette Typesetting Co. He resided in Lafayette. Born in this city June 23, 1928, he was a son of Harold and Zulieme Reichard Orr. His first marriage was in 1948 to Mary McIlroy. In 1968 he was wed to Janet James, who survives. Mr. Orr was a 1946 graduate of Crawfordsville High School, where he was an all-around athlete, playing basketball and golf and competing in track. He became an outstanding golfer. In 1947 he was runnerup in the State Amateur tournament at South Bend. In 1954 he set a course record of 66 at the Municipal Club here. Mr. Orr was a hand compositor, employed for 11 years at the Donnelley plant here and later at Lafayette. He served in the U.S. Army in 1946-48 and was a member of Sons of the Legion of Byron Cox post here. Surviving besides his wife are a son, Donald S. Orr of Hillsboro; his mother, Mrs. Oliver McLoed, and a brother, Kevin C. Orr, both of Rt. 1, New Ross, and two aunts, three uncles and several cousins. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Hunt and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Little officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Sunday.
