New Richmond March 23 -- Joe Edison OLIVER youngest son of Charles and Luella Oliver was born at Whitesville June 18, 1901 and died March 9, 1916 aged 14 years 8 months 20 days. Joe was a member of the Freshman class at New Richmond HS. He attended the Bible school at the Christian Church where other members of the family hold membership. Joe was a clean, high minded manly boy. He has finished the life task earlier than some of us and rests. Besides his parents he leaves on sister and 5 brothers. Mrs. Bert Warner of Ladoga, Bruce Oliver of Wetonka, SD, Leo Oliver who lives south of New Richmond, Arthur, Fred and Raymond at home. Joe's death was the first to have broken the family circle. The family have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends in the loss of the this boy in splendid young manhood. The funeral occurred at 10 o'clock Sunday March 12 from the home, the funeral being delayed that a brother Bruce Oliver might come from his home in SD. Rev. WP Samhart pastor of the Christian Church having charge of the service. The music was furnished by a male quarter. The high school, particularly the freshman class attended in a body. Members of his class also served as flower bearers. There were many offerings of flowers sowing the high esteem in which Joe was held. The pall bearers were the five brothers and brother-in-law of the deceased. The interment was made in Oak Hill Cemetery. - transcribed by kbz

Joe OLIVER, son of Mr. and Mrs. CT Oliver living on the George Marsteller place south of town died Thursday morning March 9, 1916, from a complication of diseases from which he had been a patient sufferer for the past two months and from which death relieved him about 7 o’clock. Joe Oliver was a bright and manly boy and with his cheerful disposition will be greatly missed by his friends, acquaintances and school mates as he was a member of the freshman class of New Richmond HS. Joe was about 15 years of age. When he was first taken ill his disease was diagnosed as rheumatism and for some time he was unable to obtain any rest while in a reclining position and was obliged to remain in a chair all the time and for the past several weeks a trained nurse has been in attendance. At this time the funeral arrangments have not been completed. The family have the heartfelt sympathy of the community in their house of affliction. - transcribed by kbz

The funeral of Joe Oliver was held from the family residence on Marsteller place, SE of town Sunday morning at 10 and was conducted by Rev. Shamhart, pastor of the Christian Church at this place. Quite a large number of friends acquaintances and school mates were in attendance to pay their last respects to the deceased. The funeral arrangements were under the direction of Mr. Utterback and the interment was made in Oak Hill Cemetery. The bereaved parents and family have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their hour of bereavement.
