WINGATE — Fred Ellsworth Oliver, 69, longtime resident of the Wingate area, died at 6:10 a.m. Wednesday at his home in Wingate. He had been ailing for two years and seriously ill for a month prior to his death. Mr. Oliver was born Sept. 26, 1895, at Whitesville, the son of Charles and Louella Graham Oliver. He attended schools in Whitesville, Parkersburg and New Richmond. On Sept. 26, 1917, he married Beatrice Haire at Sugar Grove. Mr. Oliver was a member of the New Richmond Christian Church. He had farmed his entire life in Montgomery and Tippecanoe counties. He and his wife had lived on a farm near Wingate for many years and moved into a home in Wingate this winter. Mr. Oliver was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Leo and Joe. Survivors include the widow; a son, David Lee Oliver serving with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Pickway; a daughter, Mrs. James Lee Meharry of Wingate; three brothers, Bruce of Ellendale, N.D., Arthur of Belleville, Ill., and Raymond of Linden; a sister, Mrs. Bert Warner of Ladoga; six grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown. Rev. Rob R. James, minister of the Wingate Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Meharry Cemetery, north of Wingate. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Friday.
