Leland Olin, 80, of Rt. 4, Crawfordsville died Thursday, March 10, 1977 of an apparent heart attack while driving his car on U. S. 136 west of Crawfordsville. Mr. Olin was a member of the 1913 and 1914 State Championship Basketball Teams from Wingate. He had been nominated for the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. He was a retired farmer from the Liberty Chapel area and was a World War I veteran, and a member of the Liberty Chapel Church, Montgomery County Farm Bureau, American Legion Post 458 at New Richmond and World War I Barracks. He attended school at Elmdale, was graduated from Wingate High School and attended Wabash College. Born April 9, 1896, at Elmdale, he was a son of Dr. Levert and Effie Swank Olin. He was married to Mae Harshbarger on June 28, 1917, at the home of her parents near Liberty Chapel. She died in 1969. Surviving are two sons, Harold of Rt. 2, Greenfield and Daryl of Rt. 4, Crawfordsville; a daughter, Mrs. Sid (Helen) Langworthy of Rt. 4, Crawfordsville; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Crowder of Waukegan, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Nine brothers and sisters and a grandson preceded him in death. Services at Thomas Funeral Home with the Revs. Jack Swank and Mike Smith officiating. Burial in Oakland Cemetery north of Elmdale.
