Source: Crawfordsville Review April 4, 1912
Aaron Nutt, son of Edmund and Elizabeth Nutt was born Feb 16, 1838 died March 29, 1912, aged 74 years 1 month and 14 days. He was born on the Nutt homestead about 1 mile west of his present home, and spent with the exception of four years spent in Colorado, lived his entire life in this county. He was married to Rachel Margaret Stuart Aug 9, 1881, who with two sons Walter and Sanford E. survive. The eldest son Edmund Carl died at the age of 22 months. He is also survived by his brothers, Jonathan and Sanford Nutt. Mr. and Mrs. Nutt began housekeeping in their present home and with the exception of four years’ residence in town have spent their married days on this farm. Mr. Nutt was a prosperous farmer and politically was a democrat. Mr. and Mrs. Nutt’s home was home to the homeless and more than one orphan shared their home until they were old enough to make their way in the world. Those he raised and gave a home for a while were: James Stuart, his brother-in-law of Waynetown; Bert Keezel of Crawfordsville; Henry Nutt of Billings, Mont; Eddie Crocker of Chicago; Alice Carter of Frankfort and their niece, Margaret Burke, who still makes this her home. Mr. Nutt never turned a traveler or an agent or a peddler or a tramp from his dor. If they happened along at night they were given a bed or at mealtime a meal. He was a kind husband, a good indulgent father and splendid neighbor. He was a man of great principle, his word was as good as gold, hiss advice was sought by one and all. Once he met you he retained your friendship always, was fond of children and children all loved him. He was of a lively disposition and made the best of everything and was a second father to many a younger neighbor. A man who always set a good example and a man whom they might all strive to lead a life such as his. He fought the battle of life valiantly and we know he is resting in a home in heaven - kbz
