Note: Exact obituary in the Crawfordsville Weekly Journal 16 July 1897 p 6

Thomas Nolan, familiarly known as “Tom Titt,” fell over on the Covington hill last Saturday shortly after 1 o’clock and died in a few minutes.

Nolan was a painter about 45 years of age, but for some weeks had been employed by Michael Devan, of northwest of the city, as a farm hand. He left that place shortly after dinner Saturday and presumably started for town on foot. While coming down the Covington hill he fell over and rolled into the gutter.

George Quillen and a man named Biggs first found him and life was then not extinct but he died within a few minutes after falling. Dr. Keegan was called out but Nolan was dead before he arrived. Dr. Keegan thinks he died of sunstroke.
The body was brought in to Carver & Robbins’ undertaking establishment where Coroner Barcus held his inquest. Nolan was a son of John Nolan who died here some years ago. He leaves no immediate relatives but has several cousins. -s
