Mrs. Jane D. Nixon, 54, former Crawfordsville and Darlington schoolteacher, died at 6:55 p.m. Monday in Culver Hospital. She was the wife of Harold Nixon, president of Steck's. For the past six years Mrs. Nixon had been associated with her husband as a buyer of ladies' clothing for Steck's Weathervane store. Mrs. Nixon had been prominent in a number of civic activities and at one time had been active in the Boy and Girl Scout organizations. She was a member of Tri Kappa sorority for a number of years. Born Aug. 11, 1915, in Crawfordsville, Mrs. Nixon was the daughter of Claude B. and Mary Dunnington. She was married Feb. 16, 1941, in Crawfordsville. Mrs. Nixon was a graduate of Crawfordsville High School and Indiana University. At IU she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Surviving are the husband; her mother of Crawfordsville; one daughter, Mrs. A.C. (Salli) Colby III of Panama; a son, Wade B. Nixon, serving in the U.S. Air Force at Lowry AFB, Denver, Colo.; a sister, Mrs. Florence Baber of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; a son-in-law, A.C. Colby III of Panama, and her mother-in-law, Mrs. Frank W. Nixon of Crawfordsville. Interment services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the mausoleum at Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial services will be held at 2:30 that afternoon in the Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church with Rev. Larimore K. Wickett officiating. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to the Montgomery County Unit of the American Cancer Society, Post Office Box 484, Crawfordsville. There will be no calling at the funeral home.
