Niven - Lt. Floyd

Mrs. Charles Spry was a recipient of the telegram this morning at 9 o'clock stating that her son, Lt. Floyd Niven had been killed while in action with the American expeditionary forces. Further knowledge of the fatality is at present unavailable. Immediately upon receiving the sad news Mrs. Spry suffered a nervous collapse. Lt. Niven was 24 years of age. He was a graduate of a St. Louis HS and had served over six years in the regular army. He was also a member of a St. Louis Baptist Church and had expressed the desire to his mother of having his letter transferred to a church of this city after he returned from France. Lt. Niven at the outbreak of the war was in the US Reserve force. Previously he had served with Pershing in Mexico. The deceased was a member of the 45th Supply Company and besides his mother he is survived by a brother, Chester Niven who is overseas with the YMCA. -- kbz
